Each time a prominent honors show draws close, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers with niche passions.
A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
