Washington Commanders leader Coach Quinn has admitted he bears some the blame for a serious ailment to the team’s signal-caller, Daniels.
Daniels, who enjoyed among the best rookie campaigns in history last season, sustained a dislocated elbow joint in the Sunday loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Although Daniels passes with his dominant arm, the injury has placed his season in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the television broadcast did not show repeats and multiple players looked away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.
Quinn came under criticism as many believed Daniels ought not to have been on the field to begin with. The incident happened in the final period with the Washington trailing 38-7, making a comeback improbable. It is typical in such circumstances for clubs to insert their reserve QB to avoid injuries to their starter.
“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, man, I erred,” he remarked of his decision to leave Daniels in the game. “This is 100% my fault.”
Marcus Mariota will be the team’s starting quarterback from now on, but he will lead a team in turmoil. Following making the conference title game last season thanks to Daniels’s brilliance, the franchise have faced difficulties this season. They also saw injuries to cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a number of other key players on injured reserve. The Washington squad are 3-6 so far, and it would require a massive reversal for the team to reach the playoffs.
